Boyd's Bunch @ the Beach

Loaded up and ready to go
Learning about  sea turtles.
Some of the facts that we learned were:
~Baby turtles find their way into the water after they hatch from eggs by the light of the moon.
~There are 7 different types of sea turtles that we discussed today.
~Hunters kill turtles for their meat and their shells.  The meat is used for eating and the shells are used to make jewelry.
~Some turtle shells are used to make ornaments.
~Turtles can confuse trash with live objects.

While on the beach we were involved in a scavenger hunt.  Some of the objects that we found were:
~Kitten's Paw Shells
~A starfish that was living in the water, but had lost 2 of its legs
~Different types of birds and some of their nests
~Crabs living in the sand and the water
~Spiders and their webs
~Moss
~Feather
Here we are trying to check off the scavenger items.

In the picture above, if you look closely you will see the starfish that we found.
One of the tasks that we completed was drawing a background or an object that we learned about or saw.
Just girls!
The students broke up into groups and had to compete in building a sand castle or creation.

Even though it was hot, they had a lot fun creating and getting their hands sandy.
The finished products are below.  Each team had a special feature to their castle/creation.

The above team won the most creative sand creation.

We saw a gopher tortoise on the way back to the pavilion.  In fact, we thought it was after Ryan.
We had a moment to pose for a picture before grabbing lunch.
We were all a little tired afterwards...some more than others!!!!

Today was a very fun day for our class.  After all of the hard work that we have done this year, we deserved the fun we had today.  The students had fun discovering different things on the beach and learning about our natural surrounds.  It was a great field trip to end the year with.
